What this one is built to do
Connecting the bodies
The two gauges snap together along the rail when a single body is too short for the molding. Slide them apart when you only need to wrap around one small copper line beneath the sink.
Locking the profile
Push the teeth against the door casing, throw the side lever, and the teeth hold their line while you carry the frame over to your plywood. The teeth stay put while you run the pencil down the edge.
Deep reach marking
The included marking pencil carries a long narrow nose that fits into tight recesses. It reaches past thick gauge teeth to lay down a clean line directly onto flooring, sheet goods, or ceramic tile without rolling.
Carried on your belt
Each gauge body carries an integrated clip on the back. Hook one on your pocket or tool belt while you measure baseboards, keeping the second piece in the bin until a wide sill calls for the connection.
